Match Report: Gonçalo Guedes inspires VCF to restart home win over CAO (2-0)

Valencia CF welcomed Club Atletico Osasuna on Sunday the 21st of June at Mestalla at 7:30 pm kick-off time on Matchday 30 of LaLiga Santander looking for an upturn in their fortunes and grab their maiden resumption win.

Valencia CF appeared to have been made the perfect start to the game but the same script followed as Rodrigo Moreno had an early goal harshly ruled out for a Rodrigo Moreno offside by a hair.

Minutes later, Gonçalo Guedes drew first blood with a wonderful mazy run from deep leaving a cluster of Club Atletico Osasuna players in his wake and drilling it into the top corner over the ten-minute mark to open his Valencia CF account for the season with panache after another lengthy VAR review again.

Aforementioned Rodrigo Moreno kept on relentlessly for his goal and on twenty minutes he had a close-range shot blocked by a David García last-ditch piece of defending to put it behind for a corner. 

Valencia CF were dominating in terms of possession danger restricting the Navarreses to a few half chances before the cooling break. Gonçalo Guedes turned provider for the second as he pounced on a Club Atletico Osasuna threaded it through into Rodrigo Moreno’s stride who slipped it past the keeper inside the left post to put Valencia CF two goals to the good and get his name on the scoresheet.

Jasper Cillessen kept the scoreline in the closing minutes of the half with an instinctive save at the near post to an Adrian López shot. The first half finished with a comfortable 2-0 lead for Valencia CF despite an early disallowed goal and two lengthy VAR reviews.  

Valencia CF begun the second half playing their typical possession-based football trying to exploit the gaps by moving the opposition from side to side. Moments later the referee had to receive medical treatment on the pitch following a fortuitous coming together with Brasanac.

Club Atletico Osasuna kept pushing for a goal and they had a double chance from Eric Gallego who overcooked it and luckily did not pick out Adrían López and then a follow-up shot after a Rubén García’s effort which rattled the woodwork.    

Albert Celades made a double substitution as Gonçalo Guedes and Maximiliano Gómez made way for Ferran Torres and Denis Cheryshev over the hour mark. Osasuna kept on having dangerous chances with twenty minutes plus stoppage time remaining. 

Denis Cherysev got denied his goal from close range deep into stoppage time after withstanding waves of Club Atletico Osasuna attacks. The scoreline remained unchanged and Valencia CF took all three points with a 2-0 victory over Club Atletico Osasuna as they extend their unbeaten home record.

Valencia CF will visit Sociedad Deportiva Eibar on Thursday, June 25 at Ipurua at 7:30 pm kick-off time on Matchday 31 of LaLiga Santander where they will be looking to get their return win on the road in the Basque country.

Observations:The club paid homage to Juan Carlos Unzué on occcasion of World ALS Day with a shirt and a message of support which was displayed up on the video sreens before kick-off.
